Huthwaite War Memorial

Edward Patrick Diamond

Ordinary Seaman - D/JX 206256
Royal Navy HMS Prince of Wales

Date of Death 24th May 1941 : Aged 21

Plymouth Naval Memorial - Panel 49, Column 1.

An uncomfirmed entry, but found in the CWGC records from being the only relevant UK listing claiming given initial. Simply identified as a son of Patrick and Catherine Diamond, of Middlesbrough Yorkshire. Uncertainty remains behind how this young man may have gained a Huthwaite connection, or length of time at sea. Launched just three months before, the HMS Prince of Wales battleship was still not fully operational when sent to engage the infamous German Bismarck battleship. Ordinary Seaman Edward Patrick Diamond was clearly one of the victims when that dated encounter inflicted significant damage.
