Donators Preview Gallery

Eventual aim is better displaying all donated images by incorporating them among relevant subject pages. These historic photographs can eventually raise various topics of future interest, so this preview gallery helps quickly display recent collections potentially inviting additional material by also jogging others memories. Generous donations of multiple photos can be separately shared by named albums.

Unknown Family AlbumMr Trev Ashmore kindly expands his album donations providing some unique records and references as well as photos like this unknown grouping that appears to have been part of someones old Huthwaite family album. Can you help by identifying anyone portrayed, believing they extend among the notable Boot family.

68100022Courtesy Des Taylor A unique arial photograph looks northward onto farm lands and housing branching south from off Blackwell Road among which owned. Hope to learn more from Mr Taylor who explained top left buildings were the original Quaker plot which has long eluded me. He also recalls past cottages and tenants whose roof line made mystery appearance below my Hopkin Lane postcard. Lost? New housing enters Whitegates estate today, aside top left access onto Little Lane.

HezekiahHollands of Huthwaite Sincerest thanks can now become fully extended toward Robert Holland. His posted CD unveils some marvellous family tree work, including how broader ancestral connections moved to Huthwaite. Prior sharing his larger separate album, shown here is Hezekiah Holland being presented 1953 with award after being treasurer for a local charitable trust. Just one notable Huthwaite family member who appears among all Roberts detailed research, aiming at publishing a future book. I can now attempt sharing some of his work online.

JoeGraveExposing our own Family Album Hopes rest on my son Jason prolonging the family name Elliott. Although our photo album reveals nothing fantastic it does cover some nostalgic times since his Great Great Grandparents firstly moved into Hucknall Huthwaite manning New Hucknall Colliery. Chosen image however will be used for potentially expanding a lost memorial project after Joseph Elliott probably became Huthwaites first WW2 victim.   Exploring Mothers side finds Junes Grandfathers Cobblers shop frontage stood upon Huthwaites Market place, although documentation does now prove an uncles WW2 services. This being issued by Secretary of State for War recording His Majesty's high appreciation to driver Arthur Stones. His Royal Army Service did however haunt him ever after.

bs-219Sisters Midge and Betty (nee Fox) A postcard image inviting discussions passed through The Peacock comes from Midge. Younger sister of a former Huthwaite historic society class leader Mrs Betty Smith. Midge is shown sat front when boxing enthusiasts date this 1951 Roker Park carnival. Guest appearance is by British Boxing Champion Randolf Turpin, recalled at time by Phillip Maxwell winning World Middleweight title from off Sugar Ray Robinson.

HOHW1998Additional Donations from Helen Wilson Among her many original postcard images kindly supplied by Helen this addition to her expanding collection shows the CWS factory circa 1907.   This extensive historic building is still used after renovated adoption by newer companies. Here shown recently opened as Huthwaites largest hosiery factory employing numbers nearest size modern pits.

HOPB1945Courtesy of Mr Paul Bradshaw Expressing extreme thanks to Paul for this magnificent photograph while variety of topics being covered has long delayed presenting commercial gallery or showing this Main Street address 52, dating prior 1945.   Displaying Boot Repairer below window name J. Martins, shows relatives of Mr Bradshaw originating from Huthwaite.

TONYTOBYCourtesy of Tony Sneep One regular pub patron, Tony will be remembered being an amiable village character.   Famed by national tabloid newspapers after arrest and penalty being drunk in charge of his horse and cart.   He passed this local press clipping that recalled Toby his favourite shire passing through Sutton when still upon their regular Rag and Bone rounds. Accidental death 2005 proved his final alcohol related event, ending with a well attended horse drawn funeral giving fitting local tribute.

JGWRIGHTCourtesy Kath Wright Thanks to Kath when running the families Main Street butchers shop for this copy from her historic collection.   An election leaflet of 1931 displaying John Gilbert Wright, seeking membership upon our then Huthwaite Urban District Council.
